A bit of history
In 1868 a delegation lead by Gray (the local Member of Parliament at the time), approached the Government of Victoria with the view to gain a grant of 20,000 pounds ($40,000.00) to channel water from the Goulburn at Nagambie to the dry goldfield at Graytown. The request was rejected, however the survey was adopted some years later with the construction of the Goulburn Weir. The water from the weir irrigates half a million hectares of prime farmland, producing economic wealth to the Goulburn Valley and beyond.
