Welcome
once again to our monthly newsletter "Travelling Victoria" and we thank
you for taking the time to enjoy. These newsletters are sent to all the
people who have done some sort of adventure with River Country Adventours
on the river or a coach tour, and for all those who wish they had. Been
receiving some interesting and very funny nominations for the smartest
bird competition. We will keep it going for another month. Simply nominate
the bird that you think is the brainiest, but I might point out to Matt
from Sale that a 'Scarecrow' is not really a bird! There is a prize for
the best entry in this good fun competition.
The
winner of last month's members competition is won by Jake Connally from
Wodonga. Jake knew that Melbourne was founded in 1835 and just slowly
grew until the gold rush 1851-1870 during which the population of Victoria
increased from around 70,000 to just under 1 million people. Jake has
won a free holiday camping and canoeing on the Goulburn River for two
(2) people. We have increased the prize from one person to a couple. The
total value of the prize is just under $400.00, well worth winning for
the annual outlay of just $10.00 membership. There is another chance to
win later in this newsletter as well as an application for membership
of the RCA Adventure Club.
100
years ago
The following comes from the Kyabram Newspaper from 100-years ago. It
shows how our culture has changed in that time. I doubt an event like
this would even get a start these days, let alone getting a mention in
the local paper.
"The Rev. L.J. Rowlands delivered a lecture entitled 'William Ewart Gladstone'
before the Lancaster Literary Society members on Monday evening last.
About 20 persons, including a considerable number of ladies braved the
stormy night and were amply compensated for their trouble by the pleasure
of listening to a particularly interesting and well prepared lecture."
Team
Building
River Country Adventours is pleased to be able to offer your workplace
a variety of 'team building' outings and activities-
- Winery
Tours - We can arrange courtesy collection from the Melbourne area,
and get you home safely.
- Canoeing
- Available at Seymour, Nagambie, Shepparton, Wyuna, Yambuna, Barmah
and Echuca on the Murray.
- Camping
- Series of good safe sites along sections of the Lower Goulburn River.
A
half-day canoeing safari with catering and transport back upstream to
your vehicle/s is from $55.00 per person. Canoeing is good fun and requires
a certain amount of team work to your goals. We own good equipment and
have an excellent knowledge of all sections of the rivers and we are open
and looking for more business.
The
Whales Tale
"Absolutely fabulous!"; "Very Spectacular!"; "Better than I ever imagined!";
"Superb in every way!", were some of the comments during our recent flight
tour to Ceduna S.A to witness the annual massing of the Southern Right
Whales at the Head of Bight. There are plenty of these magnificent creatures
to be seen close to the world class viewing platform at Yalata just off
the Eyre Highway on the Nullarbor Plain. The tour began in Shepparton
and we landed and picked up more passengers at Echuca on the way to Mildura.
From Mildura we fly over the Mallee desert of South Australia to Port
Augusta and then onto Ceduna. The flight takes about 4-hours and the scenery
is breathtaking. We spend a day driving along the Nullarbor and whale
watching. The Nullarbor looks great, recent rains have brought a green
tinge and there are wildflowers everywhere.
The
flight home took the coastal route to Port Lincoln and then directly over
Adelaide, and then straight across the Wimmera and back to Echuca. Terrific
tour, and as the whales with their calves will hang around until September
we are hopeful in arranging more tours. If this special tour appeals and
you want further information please contact River Country Adventours
on 5852 2736 email rob@adventours.com.au
Competition
Here is your chance to win a free holiday for two (2) canoeing and camping
at one of the Wyuna campsites. Remember that only members can win and
to become a member costs an annual subscription of $10.00. Membership
also gives a 10% discount off all canoeing and tours with the exception
of the special flight tours. So if you want to win a prize worth almost
$400.00 and get a discount off, becoming a member is good value. The draw
will be done on September 1 and the lucky winner notified at that time.

Fishing
Trips
River Country Adventours are in the process of developing some
terrific fishing tours that will fly to the hot spots around Australia
and bring home the catch. We are putting together a package to Whyalla
on Spencer Gulf in South Australia, this region is famous for the big
snapper. Ceduna on the Great Australian Bight is famous for King George
Whiting. Then we have Sweers Island in the Gulf where we chase all those
huge tropical fish. For more information and time schedules, please get
in touch with Rob Asplin on 5852 2736 or return email. We are so lucky
living in such a great country, and we want to share with as many people
as possible.
