Travelling Victoria
with River Country Adventours Volume 82: June 2006

Welcome to our winter edition of "Travelling Victoria". We hope you enjoy the read and keep warm in what is turning out to be a very cold winter in Victoria. The lucky winner of last month's competition is Noeleen Mc Rae from the Geelong suburb of Waurn Ponds. Noeleen correctly knew that the Clydesdale horse is a native of Scotland and was brought to Australia in the early part of the 19th century to assist with all the agricultural pursuits taking place at the time. Noeleen has won a free couple of days canoeing and camping at Wyuna on the banks of the pristine Goulburn River. There is the final free competition later in this edition. From the July 2006 newsletter only members of the RCA Club can win the prize which has been increased to cover two people. Membership only costs $10.00 per annum and there are many other benefits such as 10% off all canoeing adventures and tours (except the flight tours) and plenty of other benefits. This newsletter will continue to be sent free each month. An application for joining the RCA club is at the bottom of the page.

Sir Henry Bolte
Readers with a bit of age will remember the colourful premier of our State from 1955 to 1972. I grew up as a boy in his Western District electorate and I remember the older people saying some very funny things about him, some not so flattering. One thing I recall in particular was the story that he tried to make laughing compulsory in Victoria. It may have worked, as a lot of people were laughing back then.

New Canoeing Adventure
It is called the "Bridge to Bridge" 2-day adventure. With around 30-km from Mc Coy's to Yambuna Bridge the Goulburn River sets a challenge for the paddlers in the Wyuna area. The adventure is very similar to our popular self-guided safaris but the difference is that the camp is around the half way mark and on the first day we drive you to Mc Coy's Bridge and the group spends the next 3-4 hours canoeing/kayaking downstream to Mc Gregor's campsite. Your cars are safely parked here in case you want to drive into nearby Kyabram or Echuca for more supplies or a night out. The next day you paddle on to Yambuna Bridge from which we drive you back to Mc Gregor's camp. You bring all the gear including tents and we supply the canoes, portable industrial toilet and the fishing gear. The cost is only $112.50 per person and we think this will be another winner. Kids under 12 are free and dogs are welcome.

Ceduna Flight Tour
We still have 2-seats available for the spectacular flight tour to Ceduna S.A to view the annual massing of the Southern Right whales at the Head of the Bight. The whales return every three years to give birth, and there was a huge number whales to be seen in 2003. The plane will depart from Shepparton on July 25 returning 3-days later. So this could be a good chance for a couple of lucky readers to see something very special and enjoy a terrific tour at the same time. We have some good photos from last years tour on our website. www.adventours.com.au go to the whale gallery on the home page.

Competition
Last chance for a free entry into this most popular monthly competition. The lucky winner will be drawn from an old hat around July 10, so have a go you never know your luck.
Q. There were five (5) Australian Prime Ministers during Sir Henry Bolte's time as Victorian Premier, name two (2) of them.

Lake Eyre
With huge rainfall in Northern Australia there is a slight possibility that Lake Eyre will once again have water. If the flood waters arrive at Lake Eyre ,thousands of water birds from all around Australia fly to the big lake to feast on the fish that are washed down the streams and breed. We are watching the developments closely, and if you are interested in a flight tour to Lake Eyre, we are now taking expressions of interest. The proposed tours will be in August and have two (2) night accommodation in the outback town of William Creek. Please email- info@adventours.com.au and lets hope it continues to rain up there.

New Brochure with attitude
Echuca/Moama attractions committee should be congratulated for coming up with such a terrific brochure. It lists up to 35-local attractions in cartoon form, but the map is easy to follow and a must to have when visiting Echuca/Moama on the Mighty Murray. If you want a copy of this beaut brochure, please let me know, we will post it to you. Just return an email asking for a new EMT brochure.
