Welcome once again to our monthly newsletter, and if you are reading for
the first time we hope you enjoy and continue to do so for a very long
time. During the month we arranged our first flight tour to Ceduna to
see the whales at the Head of the Bight, and began our camping and canoeing
season on the Goulburn. Thanks for all your kind wishes and remarks concerning
the sudden death of our beautiful old Jordi dog. We are now the proud
owners of a jet-black Labrador pup. We think Bonny will turn out alright,
she loves going out to the river and the bush, but she has a lot to learn.
Last month's lucky winner of a free holiday canoeing and camping on the
Goulburn River is Janet Omodei from Robina in Queensland. Ceduna is on
the Nullarbor Plain in South Australia. Ceduna is a fishing port famous
for King George Whiting and Oysters. There is another chance to win later
in this newsletter.
Whales galore
The flight tour to Ceduna to see the massing of the Whales was absolutely
spectacular. There is estimated over 100 of these magnificent creatures
to be seen at the moment. Some are quite close to the well constructed
viewing platforms, and this tour will become an annual event with River
Country Adventours. The best time to see the whales is from early
July to the end of September. The mothers calve in the warmer waters off
the South Australian coast and when they are strong enough they return
to the Southern Ocean off Antarctica. This is one of the best tours we
have been involved in. For more information and booking for this fantastic
flight tour, please contact Rob

100-years
ago
This is a popular segment of our newsletters. The following article appeared
in the Kyabram Free Press on August 18, 1905.
"The
Tatura/Kyabram football match was simply a disgraceful exhibition, and
this was caused through several contributing factors, but the chief one
was the failure of the inept and feeble umpire to put down, at the outset,
all rough and foul play."
There you are, umpire bashing has been around for a long time.
More
from Ceduna
I was pretty keen to get going on the 3-hour drive to the Head of the
Bight and forgot to pick up the picnic lunch prepared by the motel in
Ceduna before we set off on the tour across the Nullarbor to the whales.
Realizing after we had traveled about 100-km I pulled up and confessed
to the passengers of my omission. They were a terrific group, testimony
that I was not hung beside the road without a fair trial there and then!
So we continued on thinking of how hungry we'll all be by dinner and were
quite surprised when Brian Brews the owner of the East West Motor Inn,
Ceduna passed us and motioned for me to pull over. Here was lunch, personally
delivered half way across the barren Nullarbor. So if you are anywhere
near Ceduna, call in and say hello to Brian and his lovely wife Maureen;
in fact make arrangements to overnight there. The service way beyond the
normal call of duty is to be commended. Thanks Brian, you saved my bacon!
Competition
Here is your chance to win a free holiday on the Goulburn River. All you
have to do is correctly answer the question, and all correct entries go
into an old hat for the draw on October 10, so have a go, you never know
your luck.
Q. Which is further south Cairns or Broome?

Wakiti Creek Resort
This was first mentioned in the March issue of "Travelling Victoria" and
it is pleasing to report that our article created some inquiry. The resort
is 3-km over Yambuna Bridge deep in the forest on the banks of the delightful
Wakiti Creek, which is an anabranch of the Goulburn River. The resort
boasts 5 authentic 20 foot American Sioux tepees as well as 70-powered
caravan sites. So if you really want to get away from it all with caring
owners contact Jayne on 5867 3237. Canoeing and kayaking on the
creek and the Goulburn can be arranged from the resort by River Country
Adventours.
