Welcome once again to our monthly newsletter, we trust you will continue
to enjoy and have a crack at the competition. Last month's lucky winner
is Andrew Bint from Nelson Bay in N.S.W. Andrew knew that a ton in cricket
is 100-runs. Andrew has won a free getaway canoeing and camping on the
Goulburn River at Wyuna. Wyuna is about 2.5 hours due north of Melbourne
on the Murray Valley Highway, 32 km east of Echuca. Wyuna has a resident
population of about 20, boasting a hall and a fire station. Last year
they purchased a new fire engine but kept the old one for false alarms!
Adjacent to Wyuna is the beautiful Goulburn River and the campsites. The
Wyuna reserve is controlled by the local Landcare group, a very dedicated
group of local people, and were the winners of the Victorian State Landcare
award in 1997. Some of the trees within the reserve are over 400 years
old and recently 2-new species of native plants were discovered in the
region.
During the month this terrific message came in and we wanted to share
it with you-
"Hi
Rob,
I am just emailing to say thanks again for organising the three day canoeing
trip for Craig, Nicole, Ingrid and I over the Christmas holidays. We all
had a great time and it was a really nice break from everything, healthy
and relaxing. It was a great way to see some of that part of Victoria.
The scenery along the Goulburn River was beautiful, really classic Australian
bush with the cockatoos screaming overhead.
Thanks also for the newsletter and we will all be back canoeing when we
get the chance.................................................
Cheers, Andrea"
Echuca
Orginally called "Hopwood's Ferry" after the founder and reformed convict
Henry Hopwood in 1853. Echuca means the "Meeting of Waters" meaning the
Murray, Campaspe and Goulburn Rivers join in the region. Echuca is now
a great tourist destination, with something for everyone. It has a well
appointed Visitor Information Centre which is staffed by friendly helpful
local people. River Country Adventours operate the "Canoes on the Goulburn"
near Echuca/Moama, and we are pleased to be associated with the tourism
industry in great part of Northern Victoria. Other tourism attractions
include, wineries and vineyards, horse trails along the river, river-boats,
historic port area and leading accommodation. Echuca is just over 2-hours
from Melbourne. Next time you are looking for something to do you will
be most welcome in Echuca/Moama.

Pelicans
These magnificent birds are in the Heron family and usully mate for life.
Their diet is mostly fish and a group of Pelicans seen fishing together
usally means it is a good fishing spot. During the drought in 2002, the
birds nested along the Goulburn River because their billabongs and wetlands
had dried up. This was a huge bonus for the canoeists as these placid
birds escorted the paddlers past their nests and young. The Pelican is
the only heron with webbed feet.
Winery
Tours
Always available for groups small and large. We can arrange for courtesy
collection anyway in Melbourne, and more importantly get you home again
safely. Most of our tours visit the leading wineries in the Nagambie Lakes
region, but we have tours into the Yarra Valley and Geelong region. We
welcome all your enquiries regarding tours, and we can usually tailor
an outing to suit most requirements. River Country Adventours have been
operating for nearly 12-years and is a fully accredited tourism business.
