Welcome once again to our monthly newsletter, thanks for all your messages
of goodwill and support, it is greatly appreciated. All the best for another
fantastic year to all our clients and friends. During the month we received
this terrific message-
Dear
Rob & Joan
"Love
your newsletter and look forward to seeing it in my inbox. Great news
about kids under 12 being free on your canoeing and camping adventures
with their parents. It is hard for some families to find affordable holidays
for the whole family, but I am hoping that we will be able to come and
spend some time with you on the river. Looking forward to meeting you
both."
Ross & Debbie.
The
lucky winner of the free camping and canoeing holiday on the Goulburn
River is Harrison Kiraly from Marsfield in NSW. There are plenty of fish
species to be hooked in the Goulburn from Rainbow & Brown Trout in the
cool waters to Murray Cod and Golden Peach in the warmer water downstream.
We are pleased to advise that everyone who entered the competition will
get 10% off any River Country Adventours canoeing adventure until the
end of March 2005. This is the first time we have done this and it will
be interesting to see how many take up the offer. A positive response
means we'll do it again.
Harrow
The
small Western District township of Harrow was once a bustling Cobb & Co
depot with a court house, brickworks and three grand hotels. It now trades
in history, and only one pub remains. Johnny Mullagh, a member of the
first aboriginal cricket team to tour England in 1868 died in Harrow in
1891 and was buried in his cricket gear. The team that toured England
in 1868 played 47-cricket matches, winning 14 with 19 draws. Johnny Mullagh
must have been a very fine all-rounder as he made 1,685 runs on tour and
took 241 wickets. Score books and other items of interest can be found
in the nearby Hamilton Insitute.
Half-day
Canoeing
Our half-day safaris now include lunches at the same cost of $50.00 per
adult. Children under 12 are free on any canoeing adventure on the Goulburn
River. This has been very well received by the public. We can arrange
for paddling in Seymour, Nagambie, Shepparton, Wyuna and Barmah on the
Murray. More details on all our canoeing activities can be downloaded
from the website www.adventours.com.au click onto the canoeing section.
Barwon
Heads
Once again we have a tender to be able to conduct canoe hire on the foreshore
of the estuary at Barwon Heads. Presently we are too busy with our canoes
in Northern Victoria, but if you know someone in the Geelong district
who would like to help out, we would love to hear from you. The successful
applicant would need a vehicle with a tow-bar, and be reasonably fit and
be prepared for some good times on the estuary. Expressions of interest
to rob@adventours.com.au or
phone 5852 2736.
Competition
Here is your chance to win a free holiday camping and canoeing at Wyuna
on the Goulburn River. All you have to do is correctly answer the question,
your name goes into a hat for the official draw on February 10. So good
luck.
Q.
In cricketing terms, what is a ton?

Honey-Moon
on the river
Recently, we had the pleasure of arranging a self-guided canoeing safari
for two lovely people who had just got married. The Kanyapella safari
provided part of their honeymoon. Owen and Renee only took 3-days to paddle
from Wyuna to Echuca (80-kms), knocking one day off the schedule. There
is a line here, but I'll leave that one to all the readers! We wish the
young couple well for the future, and hope they return to the environs
one day soon.
