Win a free canoeing Weekend
The first E-mail returned with the correct answer to the following question will win absolutely free a weekend camping and canoeing on the Goulburn River. The prize will be valid until 30th June 2001, and the winner will be advised immediately. Question- In which year were Skylarks first released in Victoria- 55BC, 1901, 1854, 1066 or 1947? E-mail your answer to adventours@hdc.com.au

Lake Eyre Update
The huge lake has peaked with the floodwaters from Northern Australia and now evaporation and seepage will take its toll. The water in the lake is now becoming saline and killing the fish. This will drive the birds off to greener pastures. The phenomenon in the outback is well worth having a look at. River Country Adventours have vacancies for the final flight 3-day tour departing on September 2. For information and itineraries, please contact Rob Asplin of River Country Adventours.

Drive to Whroo
The wattles and some wildflowers are now blooming in the fascinating Rushworth Iron Bark Forest. Take a drive out of the city north along the Hume Freeway and onto the Goulburn valley Highway. For further directions and information on the Whroo region, call into the Nagambie Information Centre and say hello to Maree. At Whroo there is the Balaclava Open Cut gold mine to explore, the old cemetery and the aboriginal water hole with close proximity. The iron bark support an abundance of birdlife and if you are lucky there may be some kangaroos at Whroo.

Canoes on the Goulburn
The Goulburn is the longest river in Victoria and ideal for canoeing for most of the year. River Country Adventours have canoes and kayaks for hire and safaris along many sections of the beautiful river. The main campsite is situated at Wyuna (Melway Map 521 H/6), and the region is a natural habitat for many species of water and forest birds. The "Adventurous Getaway" is proving very popular. All you have to do is book in and we will do the rest.

Olympic Spirit
The flame went through Kyabram recently and in fact right past our home. It is a terrific thing, bringing the whole country together for the common good. We are so lucky to share this fantastic country.

Catch you next time,

Rob Asplin
