Travelling Victoria
with River Country Adventours Volume 29: June 2002

Welcome to another newsletter and thanks for your kind comments and suggestions. Michelle White is the latest winner of a free weekend on the Goulburn River. Michelle's entry came out of the hat on May 10, and she knew that 1860 was the year the ill fated Burke & Wills expedition set off through the goldfields of central Victoria. This was the first time camels had been seen in Australia, and caused quite a stir with all the miners.

Outback Flight Tours
This is the year of the 'Outback' and once again we are arranging for flight tours from Shepparton to fascinating places like Broken Hill and Lake Eyre. For further details and prices etc., email- flighttours@adventours.com.au

Canoeing in the Winter
The winter is a great time in the bush. Nice warm sunny days with a roaring campfire at night, and best of all, no flies! The rivers are flowing clean and boldly and the fishing is still quite good. Last weekend a platypus was sighted in the backwater of Lake Nagambie. Teckwoon from Singapore was very lucky to see one of these beautiful aquatic creatures in the wild.

Competition
Here is your chance to win a free weekend canoeing, camping and having some fun on the Goulburn River. The winner will be notified on June 10.

Thought for the day
Over heard in the pub the other night.....
"The increasing cost of petrol doesn't worry me...I only ever put 10 bucks worth in!.." old Jack, and
"A deaf husband and a blind wife make a very happy couple...." another one of old Jack's.

Mooroopna Manor
Formally the old hospital and nurses home in Mooroopna is now transformed into hostel accommodation catering for backpackers and groups visiting the Green Heart of Victoria. Ideally situated, there is plenty to see and do around Shepparton for families and visitors. For further information phone the friendly Manor staff on 5825 2595.

Cheers
