Gina Coatsworth from Melbourne was the lucky winner of last's months competition.
Gina has won a free weekend in the bush at Wyuna, well done Gina. The
correct answer was the Skylark this beautiful song bird was brought out
from Scotland in the 1850's and has not looked back since. All the other
correct entries have a discount of 10% off their adventure weekend on
the river.
Barlow
the Eagle
Regular readers will recall that earlier in the year, a young male Wedge
Tail Eagle was rescued after being tangled up in illegal fishing lines
near Barmah on the Murray. The Barlow family holidaying from England saved
the bird from certain death. The young eagle was spotted soaring over
the tree tops last weekend, he is still looking for a mate, and when he
chooses the right one, it will be for life. We called the eagle Barlow
after the brave people who saved him whilst on a canoeing safari. Barlow
is easy to recognize, as he has a flash of white under his left wing,
this is quite rare.
River
Gums
The majestic red gums that line the rivers in Northern Victoria are about
to burst into flower. This is a special time in the bush, insects are
attracted to the flowers, and the young birds just emerging from the nests
have a plentiful food supply. Now is a great time to visit the bush, and
being so dry there are no mosquitoes. Camp fires can still be enjoyed.
There is probably no better way to spend an evening in the bush, sitting
around a good campfire under millions of stars.
Thought
for the Day
"It is far cheaper and just as rewarding to pretend that your utterly
depraved." Anon. and this little gem...."The tree of life has many branches.....although
from where I stand it looks completely rooted.....! Old Jack.
