Travelling Victoria
with River Country Adventours Volume 21: October 2001

Congratulations go to Tracy Shaw from Glen Huntly in Victoria. Tracy is the lucky winner for a free weekend on the Goulburn River. Tracy knew that Shepparton is Victoria's 5th largest city. For all those who entered and were not lucky enough to be drawn from the hat, keep trying, as later in the newsletter there will be another chance to win.

Lights, Action, Camera!
During the month of September the crew from Channel Seven's "Great Outdoors" filmed a program around the Wyuna campsite on the beautiful Goulburn River. The weather for the two days was absolutely perfect, warm and sunny and the birds put on a great performance, in fact the show should be terrific, we expect it to go to air later in the year. We'll let you all know.

Avenel
Henry Hughes called his property "Avenel" after a village in England in 1847. The bold creek that flows to the Goulburn River in the region is known as Hughes Creek. In the 1860's the Harvest Home Hotel was built to cater for the travelers to Albury and Melbourne. The building is still going today, and if you are in the vicinity and have some time to spare, call in, you will be pleased that you did. Our infamous bushranger Ned Kelly spent time around Avenel as a boy growing up in the Australian bush.

The Great Ocean Road
There is no doubt the views of the ocean and the rolling Otway Ranges that seem to run to the sea, is one the best scenic drives in the world. The Great Ocean Road was commenced by unemployed soldiers after the First World War and finished during the depression in 1932. River Country Adventours. Are regionally based tour operators, that was registered as a business in 1993. Since then day and extended tours have been developed throughout Country Victoria and beyond. We cater for groups large and small, and all tours will delve into the colourful history and heritage of the regions visited. Our motto is...."We travel well; eat well; sleep well.......and have a lot of fun doing it....."
In 1995 RCA become fully accredited, and was one of the first to be accredited in Victoria. The next year after gaining a permit from Parks Victoria, the "Canoes on the Goulburn" were launched. Starting with a modest fleet, we now own 12 Canadians canoes and 3 kayaks. So if it's a tour that you are looking for or a camping and canoeing adventure, or maybe a flight tour to some remote places in Australia, River Country Adventours are looking for your business.
