Valmai Hicks from The Patch is the winner of lasts months competition.
Valmai and her family will be camping and canoeing on the Goulburn River
before Christmas. The rare Australian animals that have been sighted near
our main Wyuna campsite are Sugar Gliders.
Victoria's
Sesquicentenary
150
years ago the Colony of Victoria seceded from New South Wales. The population
at that time was about 70,000 mostly in the developing centres of Melbourne
and Geelong. Gold was discovered in Central Victoria in 1851, that brought
thousands of people from all around the world to try their luck. By the
end of 1854 at the time of the Eureka Stockade, the population had grown
to just over half a million. By the end of the rush in 1870 the population
of Victoria was almost at the million mark. The gold rush gave us wealth
and an instant population.
Natural Wonder of the World
Lake Eyre is situated in the arid region of South Australia, and has water
in it again. The huge lake flooded last year and we arranged some tours
to witness the phenomenon, and we have flight tours available once again.
There is not as much water in the lake as other times, but still worth
the trip. For more information on the tours contact us on - info@adventours.com.au
Barlow
the Eagle
Regular readers of "Travelling Victoria" will recall that a few months
back, the kind Barlow family on holidays from England were canoeing on
the Murray River near Barmah when they came across an Eagle that had become
hooked on some illegal fishing line. The rangers released the young eagle
and this bird has unique markings under one of his wings. I see him quite
often, he hasn't found a mate as yet, when he does they will stay together
for life. I hope the brave Barlow family back in England don't mind us
naming this special bird after them.
Canoes
on the Goulburn
More great news, we are pleased to let everyone know that our prices for
canoeing and camping will remain the same as it was last year. We have
in fact reduced the cost of many of the self guided safaris and can offer
further discounts for groups. It is not too early to book in your canoeing
adventure now.
In
September, we are hopeful that Channel 7 will complete some filming on
the Goulburn with River Country Adventours for the Great Outdoors T.V.
program.
Competition
Here is your chance to win a fabulous weekend camping and canoeing on
the beautiful Goulburn River. We want your horror holiday story in no
more than 150 words. The worst experience or funniest we read about will
win. No need to give names of the places that you had the shocker at (for
obvious reasons) and the lucky winner will be notified on July 10. So
get to it, email your story to us- info@adventours.com.au
The
winner will be notified on July 10, and the story will be published in
the next edition of "Travelling Victoria", so no swearing or anything
like that. Good luck.
Cheers
