We
certainly had some fun with last month's competition. Buckrabunyule is
situated about 14-km east from Charlton, which was the town we were looking
for. In the end we had two winners, Megan Hill from Murchison and young
Lachlan Bubb from Kyabram. Both have won a free couple of days on the
Goulburn, canoeing, camping and all that sort of thing, congratulations
to Megan and Lochlan.
Lake Eyre Update
The
huge lake in the arid region on northern South Australia is once again
slowly filling. This is a legacy of heavy seasonal rain in northern Australia
over the past few months. Once the floodwaters reach Lake Eyre, water
birds from all over Australia head to the smorgasbord. There is a shrimp-like
aquatic creature that comes to life, and it is estimated that birds in
the millions take advantage of this phenomenon.
River
Country Adventours will be conducting special flight tours to William
Creek from next month, and for further detail contact us on 03. 5852 22736

Birth
of an Obsession
When
the first fleet stopped at the Cape of Good Hope on the way to Australia,
Governor Phillip bought a stallion, three mares and three yearlings. They
became the first horses in Australia when the fleet reached Sydney in
January 1788. Horse racing began in Australia in 1807, now it is a multi-million
dollar industry, and some may say an Australian obsession.
Ned
the Pug!
Our infamous bushranger Ned Kelly was also known for his bare-knuckle
boxing bouts around north/east Victoria in the late 1870's. In 1879, the
then heavy weight champion Jem Mace arrived in Melbourne, Ned challenged
him to a fight but it never took place. Ned Kelly once boasted in a letter
that "while I had a pair of arms and a bunch of fives at the end of them
they never failed to peg anything they came in contact with……."
Autumn
on the River
The
weather is stable, the Goulburn River flowing boldly through the pristine
bush, birds singing their hearts out in the trees, and the fish are biting.
We still have vacancies for Easter on the river, and a special deal of
$100.00 each for 3-nights camping and 2-canoe safaris.

Accreditation
You should always ensure that your tour operators are accredited, you
will then know that adequate insurance and other issues are fully covered.
Recently River Country Adventours received a field visit from Better Business,
Victoria. It was great to see the process working, and we were proud to
be chosen for the visit.
