Firstly,
our sincere apology for the stuff up with last months competition. It
was completely my fault, I forgot to put in sheep and cats to add to the
animals that are not native to Australia. I also got heaps from people
who told me in no uncertain terms that the dingo is not Australian. Perhaps
they are correct, I had thought that the aborigines brought their dogs
with them over 60,000 years ago. The Aborigine is Australian for sure,
and I wonder how many dingo generations before they are considered Australian?
Anyway, I suspended the competition, so no one won. Keep reading and enter
this months competition, you may be lucky enough to win a free weekend
in the bush with River Country Adventours.
Crays
in the Trees
The environmental flooding of the Barmah and Millewa Forests recently
created a phenomenon I had not seen before. The rotting vegetation that
was washed into the Murray took most of the oxygen from the water, this
caused the crayfish to crawl out in the thousands and climbed into trees
to breathe. It did not take long before the poachers arrived with bags.
However, the authorities acted quickly and a couple of boys got lumbered.
The river is now back to normal, even the fish have returned.
Wyuna
River Country Adventours main campsite is situated near a natural sandbar
at Wyuna on the beautiful Goulburn River. Wyuna can be found on Melway
map 521 H/6, and is less than 3-hours due north from Melbourne. This is
where most of the canoe safaris can begin, the area is completely surrounded
by pristine Australian bush that is part of the huge Barmah Forest, the
largest red gum mass in the world. The region is a natural habitat for
many species of water and forest birds, all have bred well this season.

Pumas
in the Hills?
We are still getting reports of big cat like creatures terrorizing livestock
along the Great Divide and other rugged parts of Victoria. Keep your eyes
open in the bush, and your camera handy because we will provide a tour
anywhere with River Country Adventours for the person who can provide
authentic absolute proof that the beast exists.
Seasons
Greetings
