Correction.
In the October "Travelling Victoria" Vol 9, we mentioned the web site
for Backpacker Tours. The correct link is www.backpackertours.com.au
Check it out it is a great site.
Sugar Gliders.
Last week we discovered a new colony of rare sugar gliders. These beautiful
Australian animals live in the red gum and silver wattles that line the
northern rivers. Sadly, the numbers have dropped dramatically since European
settlement with the introduction of foxes and feral cats.
Canoeing
Safaris.
We are offering a second safari as an optional extra with the popular
Adventurous Getaways. The extra cost for catering and our travel
is only $25.00 per person Incl. GST, and we reckon that this will be a
winner. Two organized safaris are now available when you come to our Wyuna
campsite.
Winery
Tours.
River Country Adventours have a couple of terrific day
tours to the wineries in Central Victoria. These outings are always
a great way to get out into the country in an organized way. Victoria
has some world class vineyards, many with tasting facilities and cellar
sales available. The winery tours can start from Melbourne and for larger
groups, courtesy collection can be arranged.
Environmental
Flow.
When
the Hume Weir was constructed on the Murray River upstream from Albury
early last century, provision was made for enough water for the Barmah
and Millawa Forest wetlands. This watering of the river gums and other
vegetation in the world heritage region is very important. Before the
dams, the forests flooded regularly, now man has to ensure the survival
of the forests. Next week the water will be regulated into the area for
the thirsty trees.
Win
